The Power of Words

Long after a cut heals, the injury of a harsh word lingers.

Words are the most powerful weapon we have at our disposal.

And like a physician’s scalpel, they can be our greatest instrument of healing.

Yet most of us choose to remain ignorant of this gift God has given us. For most of us this weapon, this tool, goes unused, collecting dust like a priceless bushido sword, mounted on a wall as a collector’s item.

Then in the course of our lives, as life wears us down, we wonder why we always seem to be fighting a losing battle.

We need to get familiar with our weapon, and learn how to use it.

The Bible tells us that:

1. God’s Word is living and all-powerful. (Jesus is the Word)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1 (NIV)

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12 (NLT)

2. Our words are powerful.

A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. And those who love it will eat its fruit.  Proverbs 18:20-21 (NKJV)

3. God’s words are all-powerful and we are made in His image, therefore our words are powerful. Better yet, His Word in our mouths can be all-powerful.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth. It shall not return to Me void. But it shall accomplish what I please. And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV)

We need not limp through our lives with gaping wounds, bruised and battered by our circumstances. Confessing His words and promises into our situation, activates His might in us and allows His all-healing balm to make us whole.

They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony. Revelation 12:11

  2. Patti,
I can not believe that it took me 4 months to actually read this blog. Please be encouraged to write more. Your words are always inspirational to not only me, but so many others. God has given you a gift, the gift of creative communications, and I feel He wants you to use that gift so that He may reach so many people through your gift. God Bless you and your family…
